Patch search modes

For patch search, there are two search modes available as below:

  1. Quick Search: In this mode, the search is run on a small sample of search space. This mode is suitable for iterative refinement of the search set by evaluating the results, clicking on thumbs-up/thumbs-down icons to express likes and dislikes on the results, and rerunning the search to refine the results.
  2. Search: In this mode, a smartly sampled and a larger subset of images is used as the search space. This mode is expected to take longer and give better results.

The Quick Search sample size can be modified in the 'Settings' menu as below.

Search result panel controls

The search result panel has a 'Settings' button, as marked in the above screenshot. Clicking this button opens up a dropdown with options as below:

  1. Show score: This option shows a match score on the top right of each thumbnail in the search results. The score value is between 0 and 1, with 1 being the best match. It must be noted that scores are relative to the images in the search result, which means that a score of N in two different similarity search results may not necessarily correspond to the same level of visual similarity.
  2. Show Matching Regions: If the search run was a patch search with at least one search set image having a bounding box drawn, then this option is available. With this option, a mask is placed on the thumbnail, with the opacity of the mask proportional to the match score of the specific region in the search result image. A higher opacity implies a higher match score on that region of the search result image.  This allows you to gather insight into what specific regions of the image resulted in the image appearing in the search results.
  3. Sim Search Score threshold: This takes a value between 0 and 1 and specifies the score threshold below which the results should be filtered out from the search results.
  4. Search Results Size: This option specifies the number of images/frames that should be part of the search results.
